Between Stars and Dust – Fragments of Our Existence
The fundamental principle of existence and co-existence of an intelligent life form lies in the recognition of its own limitations – amidst the infinite.
In an immeasurably vast space it travels, barely more than a speck of dust, on a small planet – hidden in a side arm of an inconspicuous galaxy.
And this life form begins to comprehend that it not only exists, but drifts through space and time together with its planet – embedded in a dynamic it will hardly ever be able to influence.
In doing so, it also recognizes: its own life is merely a flicker – a blink of an eye compared to the time of the universe.
Even the history of its species is barely more than a breath on the long path of this planet. But true change requires time – often generations. Some things grow in shadow, others only in the light of future centuries.
From this awareness grows responsibility: for one's own being, for other creatures – and for the planet that carries all of this.
Thus, knowledge leads to humility. And humility is perhaps the first step toward true co-existence – in the small as in the grand.
Yet this path is not an easy one. For there they are: all the deeply human desires, the needs, the temptations. They whisper of power, possession, control, and separation. They place the self above the whole, the now above tomorrow.
Whether our path is the right one, we will probably never know with certainty. But what we sow today, the children of our children will reap – be it insight or ignorance, care or indifference, light or shadow.
In the end, no judgment remains. Only the echo of our decisions. The stars will continue to shine. And whether we have lived with dignity – others will feel it.
Each new perspective expands the picture – and with it our understanding of co-existence.
In the interplay of diversity lies the power to shape the future. Every contribution – however small it may seem – is part of the greater whole.
